The trajectory that democratic backsliding in the United States and other countries will take remains an open question. What is certain, however, is that social scientists will continue to reflect on the current and future state of democratic norms. This volume brings together review articles published in Political Science Quarterly that use prominent recently published books as stepping stones to reflect more broadly upon democratic backsliding in the United States and beyond. Each of these review articles makes a unique contribution to the larger scholarly discussion on this important topic. Collectively, they inform our understanding of the causes and consequences of democratic backsliding, as well as possible solutions.
